When I was growing up, my Dad used to say, “Hard work makes a man.” I carried that idea with me through high school, college, and even into interactions with my present-day CEO. Maybe it’s because my CEO is also my Dad and still says it all the time.
A Worker’s Paradise
I know a lot of people say their company is a family. But here at iGonk, we really mean it. Just like a tight-knit family in the early 19th century in the southern United States, we come together each morning, just like a family would, and plan the day’s work as we look out over the rolling hills.
What’s out there? How can we make our work better? What constitutes a work expense, and, hey, can anyone really define so-called “money laundering?” Not likely!
Sure, we face challenges. From worker complaints to sexual harassment complaints to wholly creditable and actionable lawsuits bearing overwhelming evidence, we suffer them all as a family would: at arm’s length on advice of counsel.
Did I mention we have the very best in-house lawyer? My uncle certainly thinks so, and he should know: he’s that lawyer. Talk about experience! He’s been on both sides: outside the law and inside the carceral system.
Family Management: Famligement
My direct hires gripe sometimes about attention to detail. They say, “Oh, we could all work so much better if you didn’t disrupt.” They say, “Oh, the department has nose-dived in productivity and quality since you took over.” They say, “Oh, you’re just firing me because I’m not interested in you romantically.”
But if there’s two things I know, it’s these:
Hard work makes a man and that’s water under the bridge.
We are a family.
Just like I added to my Dad’s famous saying, I am adding to this company. Just like he did. Just like my son will, should I ever have one who likes me. And when the dust has cleared and the paternity results are undeniable, that’s what it’s all about: family.
