“Can’t believe it,” said Cody Blake. “You hear of it happening to other people, but you just don’t think it could happen to you.” Blake addressed reporters as he picked through the wreckage.

Hurricane winds blew the roof off Blake’s carefully-constructed objections to many government programs, scattering loose reasoning across the landscape. Similar wreckage could be seen for miles where Blake’s objections mingled with shaky reasonings of friends and neighbors.

Though Blake and his family remain physically and financially healthy, he is nevertheless, for the moment, devastated. He also suffered damage to his high horse and echo chamber. Yet he remains resilient.

“Yeah, don’t worry,” he said, throwing a one-arm hug around his wife. “People from ‘round here are strong. We’ll have it all rebuilt by November.”
