True Crime Podcast Returns to Case of Who Sponsored This Episode
Mattresses! Greens! Sneakers! Oh, my!
On a cold and misty fall evening, Prew Tagonist found herself staring down the barrel of a fearsome, high calibre, but also technically HD web cam. She looked right at her trusty sidekick, Sadie “Sade” Keck.
“What do you think, Sade,” Prew asked into her podcast-world-approved Shure SM7b mic. “Is it time?”
Keck, misinterpreting her lead host’s cues, launched into a peal of laughter, but soon realized her mistake and got back on track. “Oh, you know it,” she said. “Mattress greens!”
Holy shit. Mega panic! Wrong sponsor. And no ad-break tag line. Prew made a quick mental note to edit the stream at this point and re-upload the VOD so Keck’s mistake would be erased. One must never, ever, make a joke about sponsors. A few of the show’s fans, the Unfortunate Death Demographic or “udders” for short, would certainly notice. Prew would take some heat for that.
Her skin went cold. This was the most important case of their lives. They’d only have one more shot to turn some unfortunate soul’s grisly demise into sales of shoes, mattresses, diet supplements and the like. Should Prew go it alone (bad idea), or try once again to throw to her sidekick (also a bad idea)?
Prew gripped the table. She felt her jaw clench. She forced so much meaning into her eyebrows they could have done double duty as semaphore flags.
“Sade,” she said. “Do you think it’s time?”
Keck leaned in. There was a tense beat. But then she came through.
“It’s time, Prew, for the soppy, sloppy, bloody, mop it up sponsor of the week!”
